Lent 2023, Day 20: Assemble.

Avengers Endgame [Marvel Studios.]

We’re half-way through Lent! Woohoo! But maybe you’re feeling… well, kind of tired, spiritually. We are at the “hump day” point. So let me share a story from Sunday School this week.

We covered the story of Jesus and the Samaritan Woman, and I played this video for them:

The kids really liked the video, lol. I told them they can always turn to Jesus no matter what they’ve done or how they’re feeling. One boy admitted he gets anxious before tests and becomes so focused on that worry he doesn’t think about praying.

“I can relate. When I was in sixth grade, I’d get really nervous about tests and my grades. But I’d repeat Philippians 4:13 to myself and pray, and it helped so much,” I said. I then had the kids stand up and get into their favorite superhero poses (I remember K telling me a few years ago about “power posing,” and figured the kids would be into it). There were a few Black Panthers and even a Moon Knight, but only one DCEU character (not even the Snyder Cut could beat out Marvel on Sunday). I then told the kids to repeat after me:

“I can do all things through Christ who strengthens me.”

Now, dear readers, I encourage you, at this mid-point to Easter, to remember, no matter what, we can take it to God in prayer. And if you’re feeling worried, pose up, and recite the verse above.
