Lent 2020, Day 11: Christ & Coronavirus.

K’s rosary that hangs from the car’s rearview mirror.

My governor just declared a state of emergency here in NJ. Things are starting to get pretty real.

Yesterday, I snapped the picture above while I waited in the car for K and Z to come out of a Taco Bell. As an aside, the Black Bean Crunchwrap Supreme is pretty good. I paired mine with some Sriracha sauce from Whole Foods. Anyway, I was feeling pretty anxious sitting there alone. I had a stress test on my heart last Tuesday (no results for a couple of weeks), and a consult at Memorial Sloan Kettering (thus the trip to Manhattan during which I finally met my Kiki). My worrying wasn’t based on what happened, but rather what could happen. Fear of the unknown.

In an attempt to distract myself, I unlocked my phone to check Instagram, but instead, took the above picture. I liked seeing that crucifix with the tiny little Jesus hanging right there in the middle of a late model car that was sitting in a half-full parking lot off a busy highway. In the midst of life, and medical tests, and Taco Bell parking lots, and Route 22, and Coronavirus, there is Jesus, and “Him crucified.”
